Manassas, known as Bull Run in the south, was the site of two large battles during the Civil War.  The first battle was going to be a quick battle followed by a short march to Richmond to end the rebellion.  Unfortunately, the Union generals were incredibly wrong and the Civil War dragged on for many more years.
